EXTRA CREDIT OPPORTUNITY

An important federal district court judge from Washington D.C., Judge Norma Holloway Johnson will give a speech at MSU. She is being honored as the Distinguished Jurist of our Pre-Law Society. She rendered some decisions pertaining to President Clinton's difficulties. Her speech will be Tuesday, April 20 at 11 AM in Simrall Auditorium, which is right next door to Bowen. It will be right after our class on that Tuesday. She will participate in another ceremony at 2 PM in the Rice Hall, Women's Center, which you can attend if you cannot make the 11 AM speech.

Another extra credit opportunity is a visit to MSU by the Reverend Jesse Jackson. Jackson, a civil rights leader and two-time candidate for the Democratic presidential nomination will be traveling across the state encouraging people to register to vote. His MSU speech will be at 1 PM in the Union Grand Ballroom on Wednesday, April 21.

Another extra credit opportunity is a debate between Democratic party lieutenant governor candidates. It will be at 5:30 on Monday, April 26 in Simrall Auditorium. One of them is one of my alumni, Amy Tuck. This event is hosted by MSU College Democrats.

You receive extra credit by attending one of these speeches, taking notes on the speech, and writing up a one or two page report that outlines what the speaker said and your reactions to their comments. Turn your report in to me at the next American Government class period.

I have graded the extra credit papers that you turned in as of Tuesday, April 27. All of you who turned in an extra credit report have been credited with the maximum allowable extra credit. Hence, there is no need to do anything else for extra credit.

For those who were unable to attend any of the above events and still desire extra credit, there is one final assignment. Read the press release at this link. Now write up a ten page written report on the candidates mentioned. You can learn about those candidates by using Metacrawler search engine in my Links subdirectory. Also, use state legislature link and state agencies, both links listed on this page. Turn this assignment in by the last class day.
