Levonorgestrel Age Requirement Act

Americans have the privilege of great health care at the tip of their fingertips, even with virtual appointments. However, many young Americans are abusing such privileges by taking Levonorgestrel. The hormonal pill has been normalized to the point that it is almost thought of as a vitamin. It is easily accessible at any major pharmacy, without the need for a government issued form of identification. The pill poses many side effects and is not recommended to take more than three times a year, according to the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA), due to its ability to mess with the user’s fertility. This makes the purchase of a dangerous, hormonal medication which is used to eliminate the development of a zygote into a fully formed fetus, readily available to anyone, even individuals who are not of the age of consent.
Section 1: The purchasing of any form of Levonorgestrel should require a government issued form of identification to be verified at the time of purchase to ensure that the buyer is of the age of consent in the state of purchase.
Section 2: “Levonorgestrel” is defined as a Hormone used to prevent pregnancy after unprotected sex or after another birth control method fails. Its brand name is titled “Plan B.” Also, it is generally referred to as “the morning-after pill.”
Section 3: The Levonorgestrel Age Requirement Act will make the state-based requirements for the age of consent to be recognized by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and be legally paired with the Levonorgestrel pill. The new age requirement process will be enforced by all pharmaceutical retailors of the Levonorgestrel pill when purchasing any form of levonorgestrel. The process will be the same as when purchasing age restricted medications such as cough syrup or diuretics. Each state has their own age of consent, and the buyer will be required to show a form of government identification at the time of check out for verification by the cashier or other authorized personnel of the pharmaceutical retailer.
Section 4: Failure to show valid form of government identification, which plainly displays that the buyer is of the age of consent in that state, will result in the inability to purchase the pill.
Section 5: Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, that Levonorgestrel Age Requirement Act will go into effect immediately.
Section 6: All laws in conflict with this legislation are hereby declared null and void.
