Preamble
For many, immigration to the US is necessary to
fulfill the goals and dreams they have. Because of this, there has been a large
amount of immigration, both legal and illegal, into the US, especially at its
southern border. Many of these immigrants are families, including those with
young children, who have been forced into separation due to the operating
procedures of the US border patrol. This separation of families has led to
children being forced into horrific situations such as being detained in cages
away from their parents, traumatizing these children, and negatively impacting
the lives of these families.
Section 1
As it stands, Border Security’s responsibilities
require them to separate families at the border in order to limit the amount of
unauthorized immigration from the southern border. This forces children to be
removed from their parents and possibly never be reunited because their parents
were seeking a better life.
Section 2:
With the Border Families Protection Act, Border
Security will be required to keep families together through the entire
immigration process regardless of if the immigration is authorized or
unauthorized. This bill will also reform the detainment process of those
attempting to enter the US without authorization. This reform will include
keeping families together during detainment and presenting the opportunity for
a path to citizenship for families detained after attempting to enter the US
without proper authorization.
Section 3:
This bill shall go into effect on January 9th, 2022.
Section 4:
This bill will solve a critical issue facing families
along the southern border by allowing families to remain together through the
entire immigration process as well as lay out a path to citizenship for
families attempting to enter the US without proper authorization.
